WA Mien New Year

Baengh Orn Siang-Hnyiangx (Happy New Year in Mien) is our biggest event of the year! The Iu Mien follow the Lunar calendar and tend to hold this event around January/February. This event brings our Iu Mienh brothers and sisters from all over the country and world to help celebrate the new year.

Traditionally, food is prepped and cooked the night and morning before the event by community members. During the event, there are performances by local dance groups and singers, as well as latest community announcements. At the door, you will likely be greeted with a traditional red egg, which is handed out for good luck. You can always find community members decked out in our traditional Iu Mien clothes, which are traditionally sewn (congx congx) and adorned with silver jewelry.

Iu-Mien American Association (IMAA) and Yiu-Mienh Community Association of Washington (YMCAW) collaborated in hosting the Seattle Iu-Mien 2024 New Years Celebration with tremendous success.
