Doors Open Facilities Grant
In the fall of 2024, our community applied for the Doors Open Facilities Grant administered by 4Culture and was awarded $333,500. These funds will support the renovation of our long-needed and deteriorating facility, increase visibility and awareness of the Iu-Mien community, and create much-needed space to preserve our cultural heritage through music, arts, and traditional practices.
In March 2025, the community voted to move forward with the renovation project. Renovation will begin in Spring 2026, with construction expected to be completed within a few months. The project includes the construction of a new courtyard gazebo, leveling of the northwest portion of the site, and restoration of the historic home to create dedicated spaces for art-making, a music studio for band rehearsals, and office spaces to support emerging nonprofit organizations in the surrounding community.
Special thanks to the following individuals for generously volunteering their time and expertise in support of our grant application:
Gladys Ly-Au Young, founding partner at Side x Side Architects, along with project architect Megan Zimmerman, assisted IMAA with the project study design for this application.
Niko and Jenni Lausiva, contractors with Take2 Construction, will manage the renovation project. Together, they bring more than three decades of construction experience.
