Mien Villa Community Market
In the spring of 2024, our community center launched the first Southeast Asian community market in South King County. These events are free and open to the public, serving as a bridge between generations within our community and providing the Iu-Mien community with a valuable platform to engage with the public and raise our visibility. The market also helps bridge different communities and amplifies the voices and presence of refugees, immigrants, and other BIPOC communities in South King County.
Held on two Sundays each month from May to August, the market features around 10 vendors, both Iu-Mien and non-Iu-Mien, offering a variety of arts and crafts, handmade jewelry, clothing, and Southeast Asian foods. Pea patch gardeners also sell fresh vegetables from their gardens. Additionally, the market includes live performances by cultural performers, musicians, and bands from both the Iu-Mien and broader communities.
By connecting different generations within our community and engaging the wider area, the market fosters cultural exchange and strengthens mutual understanding, contributing to a healthier community overall.
