Doors Open Facilities Grant

In the Fall of 2024, our community applied for the Doors Open Facilities Grant, administered by 4Culture, and was awarded a grant of $333,500. These funds will be used to renovate our much-needed, deteriorating facility, to raise awareness for our Iu-Mien community, and to provide needed space to help preserve our cultural heritage through music, arts, and traditions.

In March 2025, the community voted to move forward with the renovation project. Plans for the renovation will start this Fall 2025 and will be completed in only a few months. The renovation includes the construction of a new courtyard gazebo, leveling the northwest section of the lot, and restoring the old home to provide dedicated spaces for art creation, a music studio for band rehearsals, and office spaces to support emerging non-profit organizations in our surrounding community.

Special Thank You to these special individuals for volunteering their time to help us with our grant application:

Stephen Yamada-Heidner is the executive director of Architects Without Borders Seattle. He provided free consultation, facilitated the creation of drawings of the existing old house by AWBS volunteers, coordinated with consultants, and assisted IMAA in preparing for this application.

Glady's Ly-Au Young is a founding partner at Side x Side Architects. Along with partnering project architect Megan Zimmerman, they helped IMAA with the project study design for this application.

Contractors Niko and Jenni Lausiva are contractors for Take2Construction . They will be managing this project. They have more than 3 decades of experience in construction.
